George (Ken Finkleman) Mark (Mark
Farrell) Jeremy (Jeremy Hotz)
Audrey (Tanya Allen) Jim (Peter
Keleghan)
The Character : George is,
in the words of his employees "an arrogant, no brained
self-obsessed ass-kisser". This isn't too accurate a
picture. George tries to make himself appear as a take-no-prisoners leader
yet runs into public relations problems with his staff and superiors. His
indulgence for bran muffins and young women get him into hot water with
the network execs.
The Person : Ken Finkleman is a native Winnipegger (yay!). He has directed and written screenplays for a number of Holywood movies (Airplane 2, Who's that Girl?). Not only does he star in "The Newsroom", but he is also the creator and the writer. He also starred and directed "Married Life", a sitcom on "The Movie Network".
After "The Newsroom", Ken created two more series for the CBC, More Tears, and Foolish Heart.
The Character: Mark's official job title is segment producer, yet he's more of a yes-man for George. He prefers the human interest stories to George's fixation on death and controversy. He always supports George, unless his job is on the line.
The Person : Mark
Farrell's claim to fame is as a stand-up comedian. He has appeared on CBC's
Comics! and A&E's Evening at the Improv.
The Character: Jeremy and George were made to work together. Both have the same lust for sensationalism and controversy and neither shows any "human" characteristics such as, sympathy :) Jeremy is best described by Jim as "a little asshole".
The Person : Jeremy
is a professional comedian. He has appeared on "Married Life" (created
by Ken Finkleman), "Kids in the Hall" and the MTV Comedy Half Hour.
The Character: Audrey is the "green" intern of the newsroom. It sometimes seems that she is the "only sane face" in a jungle of ratings-hungry reporters and superiors. She sometimes acts as George's assistant, despite telling him "I don't run errands"
The Person : Tanya Allen starred in Finkleman's "Married Life", Bruce MacDonald's "Platnium" as well as "Lives of Girls and Women".
The Character: Jim is the self-absorbed anchor. His main priorities range from his hair to his testosterone. Incredibly gullible, he frequently erupts with rage after hearing rumours that his job is in jeporady.
The Person : Peter's claim to fame is starring as Ranger Gord on the Red Green Show. He also makes frequent guest appearances on Seinfeld.
